Millions of young people gathered in cities around the world on Friday to demand governments take action to address climate change and put an end to the age of fossil fuels, including hundreds of students in Vancouver who staged a “die-in” in a busy, downtown mall and on the steps of a high-profile company headquarters.
Thousands of B.C. teens are taking part in a world-wide day demanding climate action, inspired by a 16-year-old activist.

The Port of Vancouver is warning locals that throngs of cruise ship passengers will descend upon downtown this weekend. The port authority says a total of
30,000 people from six ships will arrive at Canada Place on Saturday and Sunday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
"As a result, higher than normal traffic volumes are anticipated in the downtown core, along with increased demand for taxis and public transportation," the port said in a written statement.
Next weekend, a total of 21,500 passengers from nine ships are expected to embark and disembark in the same spot.
The port authority is cautioning passengers to prepare for longer than usual wait times to get on their ship, and to not arrive too early at Canada Place in order to avoid adding to the congestion. It's also suggesting that disembarking passengers plan for heavy traffic to exit the city.
More than one million passengers from 290 ships are expected during the 2019 cruise season, the port authority says, which represents a 21-per-cent increase from the year before.
The Port of Vancouver says the cruise industry in Vancouver injects $3 million into the local economy.

Upon returning to the R/V Martin Sheen, Pamela told her mother never to eat farmed salmon.
“people just don’t know, they don’t realize the fish that they’re eating. I wouldn’t trust where it is from, if you are eating sushi, you might be eating some of this diseased, lice riddled fish.
No one was aggressive or violent from either side.
Pamela and Chief George were able to record images of deformed fish, fish with large pieces missing from their bodies, as well as fish swimming sluggishly. Sluggish behavior in salmon is one of the most common symptoms associated to heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI), a disease cause by a Norwegian virus called piscine reovirus. BC’s salmon farm industry admits that 80% of their fish is infected by this virus. There are no studies to know if this virus can affect humans, despite farmed salmon being consumed raw by humans as sushi around the world.
Opposition to salmon farming has become global in recent years as people fight to protect the last wild salmon runs from extinction.
