Eine "große Koalition" CDU-SPD hätte in Sachsen-Anh. keine Regierungschance (nicht zum ersten Mal bei den letzten Wahlen).
Wenn ich an meine Schulzeit (Gemeinschaftskunde) zurückdenke, hieß es damals:
Die großen beiden Parteien haben zusammen 80-85%, 15-20% entfallen ungefähr für die FDP und die kleinen Parteien.

Das klingt heute völlig absurd. Natürlich auch deswegen, weil es jetzt viel mehr "nicht mehr ganz kleine Parteien" gibt.

Melven Jones was sent there for unknown reasons at six years old after spending two weeks at the Alberni residential school. He remained at the hospital for two years. He says he was the subject of medical experiments, including an attempt to force him to forget his native language.

“Every day I got strapped down and got these electrodes into my head and for a good year I had the shock treatment,” Jones said.

“Seeing these girls getting raped, having children, it’s very very hard,” recalls an emotional Jones.

“I couldn’t tell you how many times I got beaten because it was all the time,” said survivor Angel Sampson....

She also says one nun took groups out to the forest and forced them to perform sexual acts.

“She would take us and she would teach us how to have sex when we were six and seven, ya, groups of us,” she said.

Und der Typ scheint ein ebenso naiver wie widerlicher Gschaftlhuber zu sein. Als er realisiert hat, welche Wellen seine Aussage zum Gesundheitsministerium schlägt, hat er einen Anwalt engagiert, der nun alles widerruft. Dafür, dass die Impfung tatsächlich irgendwie mit der Regierung / dem Gesundheitsministerium in Verbindung steht, gibt es also bis auf Herrn B. bislang nicht die geringsten Anhaltspunkte.

Dass etwas nicht strafbewehrt ist, nimmt dem Verstoß ja nicht die Verkommenheit, und man darf die daran Beteiligten durchaus an den medialen Pranger stellen.

Und in der Taz ührt Zeus aus, gibt es keinen "definitiven" donauschwäbischen Dialekt, der ist'/war immer abhängig von dem Dialekt der Herkunft, und der hat sich dann eben mit dem Dialekt der anderen Donauschwaben und lokalen Dialekten vermischt. Und als sie dann vor den anrückenden Russen fliehen mussten, sind die meisten eben in Flüchtlingslagern, meistens in Österreich, untergekommen, und da sind sie dann entweder in Österreich geblieben, oder rüber nach Deutschland (bei meinen Großeltern eben die Schwäbische Alb) aber auch in die USA oder Kanada oder auch Südamerika.

Seeing the plight of the Syrian refugees and our government’s reaction — namely, non-action — to it reminded me of 1956, when my family was in a similar situation.

In early November that year, the West decided not to intervene in the Hungarian revolution, and the Soviet troops came flooding over the border. My family — father, 36, mother, 32, brother, 4, and I, a 7-year-old — left Budapest on Nov. 13 with the clothes on our backs and what we could carry. We crossed the border into Austria the next day. A total of 200,000 refugees fled Hungary.

After spending a week in a refugee camp, we made it to Vienna, where my parents chose Canada as our destination. There were only two countries accepting Hungarian refugees without quotas:

Canada and Venezuela. I am forever grateful my parents chose Canada.

Canada processed our application in less than a week. Medicals were waived. Canada paid for a flight to London.

It was at the beginning of the flight that I experienced the plight, the helplessness and the precarious position of refugees. We were seated when our family’s name was called out.

The flight had been overbooked and they were looking for four seats. I can still picture my father with his broken German, begging the staff to let our family stay on board. Fortunately, the decision-maker had a heart and we were allowed to fly.

We were taken to Liverpool, where we boarded the "Empress of Britain", arriving in St. John on Dec. 13, one month to the day after leaving Budapest. I later learned the Canadian government had chartered the whole ship for transporting the refugees.

The ship was required because the Canadian government took active steps to encourage Hungarian refugees to come to Canada. The minister of immigration, Alastair Gillespie, personally went to Austria to do this.


Among the things he accomplished was to keep the whole forestry school of Sopron, Hungary, together and move them to the University of British Columbia. The school had fled en masse — professors, lecturers, technicians and graduate students. The government found an abandoned lumber camp where they set up school while the faculty building was being built. This was the start of the faculty of forestry at UBC. (...University of British Columbia).

How different things are 60 years later. Syria has been in turmoil for years, with hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the conflict yearly. And what has Canada done? Not very much. There has been no government action similar to the helping hand extended to the Hungarians.

One would have thought we would have learned from the mistakes of the past. Mistakes that brought shame on us.

In 1939, Canada, along with Cuba and the United States, turned away the MS St. Louis, which was carrying more than 900 Jewish refugees who were fleeing the Nazi onslaught. The ship was forced to return to Europe, where it is estimated that about half of the refugees died in concentration camps. This is a stain that will remain forever on Canada’s reputation. We should have resolved “never again.”

The picture of the lifeless body of the 3-year-old Alan Kurdi lying face down on a Turkish beach is seared into our souls. There are tens of thousands of individual Syrian refugee tragedies happening daily. For me, the most painful part of the Kurdi family’s tragedy is that they had relatives in Canada who were willing and anxious to sponsor them. The obstacle was the red tape and the current attitude toward refugees in general and Syrian refugees in particular.

In 1956, my family had no relatives in, or connections to, Canada. Yet we were accepted, welcomed and processed in record time.

The Immigration Department found and paid for accommodation for my family in Hamilton and gave my parents enough money for a start.

My father started as a labourer and, once he learned the language, was able to practise his profession: engineering. He was a member of the team that developed the first ATM machine. His premature death in 1970 ended the plan for my brother and me to become engineers so that the three of us could practise together.

My brother became a dentist and I went into law. This great country gave us opportunities for which we will be forever grateful.

Canada has a history of welcoming those seeking refuge. They, in turn, have helped to build Canada into a highly regarded and admired nation.

It is sad that we have lost the political will to summon the humanity and the courage needed to extend our hands and hearts to refugees.

It is too late to help young Alan and his family. It is not too late to help other refugees from Syria.

REGINA, Saskatchewan — A Canadian Indigenous group on Wednesday announced the “horrific and shocking discovery” of the remains of hundreds of children at the site of a former school in the province of Saskatchewan, the largest such discovery to date.

It came weeks after the remains of 215 children were found in unmarked graves on the grounds of another former boarding school in British Columbia.

Both schools were part of a system that took Indigenous children in the country from their families, sometimes by force, and housed them in boarding schools. A National Truth and Reconciliation Commission called the practice “cultural genocide.” Many children never returned home, and their families were given only vague explanations of their fates, or none at all.
How Indigenous Children Vanished
The discovery of remains has rekindled discussion of a sinister time in Canada’s history.

In a statement, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations said that the latest remains numbered in the hundreds and were “the most significantly substantial to date in Canada.” It did not give an exact figure.

From the 19th century, more than 150,000 First Nations children were required to attend state-funded Christian schools as part of a program to assimilate them into Canadian society. They were forced to convert to Christianity and not allowed to speak their native languages. Many were beaten and verbally abused, and up to 6,000 are said to have died.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe issued a written statement Wednesday evening, addressing the news out of Cowessess.

"Today, all of Saskatchewan mourns for those who were discovered buried in unmarked graves near the former Marieval Indian Residential School site," he said.

"I understand many were children, and it is heart breaking to think that so many children lost their lives after being separated from their families, and away from the love and solace only a family can provide. "

Moe said he spoke with FSIN Chief Cameron as well as Cowessess Chief Delorme, offering the full support of the provincial government.

In an interview with CBC Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili said his heart goes out to the Cowessess First Nation and the trauma they must be feeling.

"We knew this was coming. We knew that this was the case," the Official Opposition leader said.

"Yet you still get this pit in your stomach and just this heart-sinking feeling."
